Return customer Molly Dilworth recently buttoned up for her grandmother’s upcoming 100th birthday. The custom 1.5-inch buttons feature pics of her grandma and the rim text states ‘Let’s just be spontaneous’. Take a look!

customs buttonsMolly says of the buttons, “I used you guys for my wedding buttons last year and my most recent project is for my grandma’s 100th b-day party coming up this July in San Diego. Her name is Eleanor Dilworth and she was born in 1911. She’s lived by her personal mantra, ‘Let’s just be spontaneous’ for a century.”

Molly, your grandma seems like a character! We’d loved to swap stories with Mrs. Dilworth over a sarsaparilla sometime. Eleanor, next time you’re in Chicago, give Busy Beaver a call.

Behind a black curtain, in the depths of the Busy Beaver Button Museum basement, lies the “Adults Only” section. There we keep the naughtiest, most distasteful, most insulting, politically incorrect buttons— custom buttons displaying words like s$!%, f@#!, and even p@#@! *gasp*

Be sure to check back in two weeks for the next installment of Museum Monday.

Have you checked out Chicago Craft Beer Week yet? While Busy Beaver is not officially associated with the week long celebration of suds, we have been enjoying the festivities. Several Busy Beavers have been spotted on the town wearing and sharing these custom 1.5-inch buttons:

With the Japanese earthquake and Pacific tsunami having occurred almost a month ago, national news has turned its coverage away from the devastated country to more pressing topics like Libya, the 2012 election, and, of course, the Bronx Zoo cobra.

But the recovery efforts in Japan are ongoing and the country could still benefit from foreign aid. The Red Cross is still taking donations and a few Busy Beaver customers are using custom buttons to help raise money. Check out this recent order from JapanMoms.org:

Bryan Flynn of Botto Arts created these stylish 1-inch buttons:

Of Montreal offers their album download in a button pack

I have seen the future of rock and roll, and it’s merch,” writes Rob Walker in New York Times article “Hearing Things: Band-Branded Merchandise Gains Momentum.”

Albums are taking on new shape from the traditional confines of vinyl and CD mediums— for instance, a featured “multi-object release” is Of Montreal’s “Skeletal Lamping” available via download card with nine 1.5-inch buttons made by possible by Polyvinyl Records and Busy Beaver Button Co.

Read more about band merchovations (new word!) in the article here.

Multilingual Chicago is calling on its students, friends, and you to help choose their next set of 1.5-inch buttons!  Read on for their Button Contest:

Please do us the favor of voting for your favorite button – or better yet, put on your thinking cap and suggest a clever new button for us to print!

By voting, you will be entered in a random drawing for $40 off any language class. If you suggest a new button and yours is printed, you will be the lucky recipient of a $75 Multilingual Chicago gift certificate (not bad for typing less than four words).
