Not just gratuitous shots of the ladies of Busy Beaver, these pics show off how custom 2.25-inch buttons can be used as nifty name tags. Take a look!

custom buttonThe pre-made buttons can be customized with the use of a simple Sharpie® marker. Just write your name on the face of the button, wait a few seconds for it to dry, then pin on and start mingling!

Knitting community Ravelry uses these style of custom name tags for all of their events. And several recent wedding clients have asked for similar designs for their rehearsal dinners.

So if you’re headed to a business conference, convention, or family reunion this summer, be sure to bring along your own set of custom name tag buttons— it’ll help old Uncle Eddy remember that, yes, you are Cousin Dave’s daughter Denise.

Return customer Molly Dilworth recently buttoned up for her grandmother’s upcoming 100th birthday. The custom 1.5-inch buttons feature pics of her grandma and the rim text states ‘Let’s just be spontaneous’. Take a look!

customs buttonsMolly says of the buttons, “I used you guys for my wedding buttons last year and my most recent project is for my grandma’s 100th b-day party coming up this July in San Diego. Her name is Eleanor Dilworth and she was born in 1911. She’s lived by her personal mantra, ‘Let’s just be spontaneous’ for a century.”

Molly, your grandma seems like a character! We’d loved to swap stories with Mrs. Dilworth over a sarsaparilla sometime. Eleanor, next time you’re in Chicago, give Busy Beaver a call.

Busy Beaver recently sat down with Ms. Lula Mae herself, Agnes B. Miles, to get her take on all things bridal.

You don’t just make button-themed accessories. What other pieces do you design?
I make bridal pieces and always try to incorporate vintage findings to give a classic piece a custom flare. I also take custom orders, which allow my clients to use the materials I have to create a piece that is unique to them. But no matter what I’m making, there are always feathers!

Is it true you made a piece for Oprah? What did Ms. O’s headpiece look like?
It is true! I made Oprah a little cocktail hat along with a bright orange and blue headband with a big cameo on it for the 2010 Oscar gift bag.

What bridal trends are you digging now?
Bridal hats are the trend of this season. I’m also loving the color champagne instead of white. Even though it isn’t white, it gives any wedding an elegant glow in the room!

Say Yes to the Dress or Bridezillas?
Bridezillas, of course! We love the drama!

What button are you wearing right now?
Right now I have on a Marilyn Monroe button on my blazer. It adds a little excitement to any outfit!

Love, Lula Mae accessories can be found at Faire Frou Frou in LA, Sofia in Chicago or online at smashingdarling.com or lovelulumae.com.

Check out part two of the Love Lulu Mae and Maypole Studios wedding button extravaganza! In this series, the groom gets into the action with a custom boutonniere made with 1.5-inch and 2-inch diamond buttons.

Summer camp isn’t just for the kids anymore! Check out Busy Beaver‘s top three choices for adult summer camps (and the appropriate custom camp button).

Champ Camp

Forget Nessie! The States has its own lake monster and the folks at Believe It Tour have developed a whole camp around its legend. Nicknamed “Champ,” the elusive cryptid allegedly resides in Lake Champlain, a freshwater lake on the border of New York, Vermont, and Canada. Campers use high tech underwater audio and video equipment to search for evidence of Champ’s existence. Non monster related activities include water ecology workshops, nature hikes, and the standard campfire cookout.
When: August 12-14
Where: Button Bay State Park (love the name!), Vermont
Attending: Cryptozoologists, mystery solving teens, talking Great Danes

From evasive driving skills to how to plan and execute a full scale hostage rescue mission, you’ll learn it all from former Green Berets and ex-CIA operatives. This message will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp

Imagine Willy Wonka with pale ale instead of chocolate and you’ve got the gist of the drool-inducing weekend that is the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp. The camp is only open to a select few— the “golden ticket” holders who gain entrance by winning a video essay contest. But once in, campers get the run of the facilities— activities include an in-depth tour of the bottling line and hop rooms, a meeting with the brew masters, and, of course, brewing.

When: August – September, by invitation only
Where: Chico, CA
Attending: Everyone (it’s beer)
