Today, let’s commemorate the 1971 album, What a Bunch of Sweeties, by the British punk band Pink Fairies. Rumor has it that legendary button company Better Badges made their pins possible.

In fact it was the other way round, it was this collection of badges that spawned Better Badges. When I was a roadie for the band collection owner Boss Goodman, a diamond geezer, gave me that “I’m Experienced” badge as a birthday present. Later I lost it and it made me think about how arbitrary the distribution of promotional badges was – you the punter usually ended up paying for the badge the record label gave to someone else – so I thought I’d have a go at simply making and selling them so people could show support for the bands they liked without having to rely on label’s generosity, which often didn’t kick in til the band’s were already too famous to care about anyway..
