Busy Beaver recently sat down with Ms. Lula Mae herself, Agnes B. Miles, to get her take on all things bridal.

You don’t just make button-themed accessories. What other pieces do you design?
I make bridal pieces and always try to incorporate vintage findings to give a classic piece a custom flare. I also take custom orders, which allow my clients to use the materials I have to create a piece that is unique to them. But no matter what I’m making, there are always feathers!

Is it true you made a piece for Oprah? What did Ms. O’s headpiece look like?
It is true! I made Oprah a little cocktail hat along with a bright orange and blue headband with a big cameo on it for the 2010 Oscar gift bag.

What bridal trends are you digging now?
Bridal hats are the trend of this season. I’m also loving the color champagne instead of white. Even though it isn’t white, it gives any wedding an elegant glow in the room!

Say Yes to the Dress or Bridezillas?
Bridezillas, of course! We love the drama!

What button are you wearing right now?
Right now I have on a Marilyn Monroe button on my blazer. It adds a little excitement to any outfit!

Love, Lula Mae accessories can be found at Faire Frou Frou in LA, Sofia in Chicago or online at smashingdarling.com or lovelulumae.com.

Check out part two of the Love Lulu Mae and Maypole Studios wedding button extravaganza! In this series, the groom gets into the action with a custom boutonniere made with 1.5-inch and 2-inch diamond buttons.

Check out these great wedding favor buttons from customers Nick and Alexia:

custom buttonsNick said of the couples’ custom 1-inch buttons, “I am from Detroit and Alexia is from Chicago. We both live in Logan Square now and wanted to give love to our home towns at the big event. My friend Jana made the illustration of us that are on the buttons.”

We’re digging the hometown love, Nick! Good luck to you and Alexia on your big day.

New Trend: Baby Buttons!

Forget cigars—the newest trend in baby announcements is custom buttons! A recent NYTimes.com article, “My New Kentucky Baby“, featured a toddler who proudly wore an “I’m a big sister” button and Busy Beaver marketing guru, Denise Gibson, recently made these 2.25-inch announcement buttons for her niece, Reagan:

It’s officially wedding season! From party favor to bridal party buttons, Busy Beaver has been getting a ton of custom wedding button requests. Check out these campaign-themed wedding buttons designed by Keith Rein of Paper Thin Design:

custom buttonInspired by the location— the wedding took place on a farm the groom owns in Georgia— Rein came up with an “old timey political banquet” theme for the invitations. The bride and groom loved the idea and even came up with the slogans for their custom 2.25-inch buttons:

Custom ButtonsAt the wedding, each bridesmaids pinned a bride button to their dress and all the groomsmen wore a groom button as part of their boutonniere. Buttons were available for guests— everyone chose which “candidate” they supported and donned the appropriate button:

We spied what appears to be an antique royal wedding button in this piece from the BBC on the history of royal wedding souvenirs.
The director of the Museum of Brands in London (pictured here) explains that souvenir companies have been cashing in on royal weddings for over a century; the first appearance of commemorative mementos dates back to Queen Victoria’s marriage to Prince Albert in 1840. While royal weddings of the past were commemorated with objects like decorative plates and mustard tins, modern day royal wedding fare includes such oddities as a Charles and Diana rubik’s cube and William and Kate Twinings teabags.

Considering the hysteria surrounding tomorrow’s royal nuptials, Busy Beaver suggests adding this custom 2-inch square button to the list of wacky wedding souvenirs:

Jen & Geoff Semler designed custom 1-inch buttons for their  invitation, shower, and wedding with four designs through Busy Beaver.  Jen shared these fabulous photos of their September wedding along with why she ordered custom buttons:

We put them in 2 little cube vases on the 2 bars at our venue and put a little sign up letting people know that they should take one as a memento of our wedding.  They were a hit!

Thanks so much Jen & Geoff, and best wishes to you both.
