You may remember the Blackhawks celebratory blog post a couple weeks back.  Since then, button collector Joel Carter ordered a 1968 Chicago Blackhawks 3.5-inch button from eBay.

What happened next was pretty interesting.  Differences in the mid-century logo and modern Blackhawks became evident, as pictured above.  Notice detail in the feathers.  The color scheme.  And interestingly, one logo is frowning, and the other is smiling!

Buttons serve as souvenirs, and time capsules for visual information.  Imagine what your buttons will mean in 42 years…

The Chicago Blackhawks are in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 1992, and that makes today’s Hot Button topic an easy one.

Pictured is an officially licensed 3-inch button on eBay from an era in the 1970s when the Blackhawks, “made the playoffs every year, winning seven division championships in the decade in all – but were never a successful Stanley Cup contender.”

History changed last night in Chicago, and future button designs will tell a new story.  Just “don’t touch the cup!“

Sun-Times features Gold Obama Button

Gold Obama Busy Beaver Button on eBay

Busy Beaver Button Co. auctioned a custom, gold President Obama political button on eBay.

There was such a response that journalist Dave Hoekstra wrote a cover piece about Busy Beaver Button Co. for the Chicago Sun-Times called Pushing Buttons. Click here to watch the video.

Gold-bama was sold to a private individual, and all proceeds went to the campaign. Obviously, it paid off.
